The past year has been a crazy journey. Hectic at times, but I’ve enjoyed it all the way. Again, I’m extremely grateful to be out there dancing, working hard, and making inspirational videos for you to watch. Thank you so much for your support!

    Great video 🙂
I have to ask .. what camera are you using for video, and what tripod.
Currently looking for something for video myself, and a new tripod as mine is simple too big for any sort of travel 🙂

Tricky question, because I actually switch my gear a LOT! But my main camera for the video was a Canon Vixia camcorder (HG20, I believe). However, I’m switching to a DSLR for video. I’m currently giving the Nikon D5100 a go, only because the file sizes are smaller and it has continuous autofocus, which is important since I shoot solo. But, I’d rather be using a Canon, since most of my photo gear is Canon and it’s much easier to do manual controls on the video.

As for tripods, I think my main tripod was a short, travel tripod – I forgot what it’s called at the moment, but it’s like the Gorrillapod. My favorite regular size tripod is an old German tripod (again, I forgot the name), but I can’t take it on hikes. I’ll post my gear list shortly since many people have asked!

        Ki’une, awesome video! Love it!

I’d also be interested in the specifics of what camera and tripod (it’s hard to find a really small tripod that will fit in my bag) you are using. Been looking for a good camera to record some moments from my upcoming travels.

Wow, that video was old-school wild! “150 channels, flipping through all of them, and still, there’s nothing worth watching.”

Yeah, I’m going to put up a post on my ultralight gear in the next post. I’ll probably have to separate cameras and tripods in a separate post. If your camera is not too heavy, I have one that flips out in seconds – zipshot Tripod. If you want ultralight, then the UltraPod is good, but you need to prop it or tie it on something.

Have been waiting for the post on your ultralight gear. When will it be posted? 🙂

          1. I finished writing it! But, I have to release a guest post first!

  2. Ki’une,

Another great inspirational video – you have such a great talent in your dancing, videography and vision. Awesome job man. I’ve been waiting 1.5 years to see another video creation from you. It was worth the wait – I’ll be passing this around to my friends/family. Thanks.

Thanks, Jeremy. My bad for not releasing it earlier – it was actually complete a while ago, but I hesitated on pulling the trigger. I promise the next one (almost complete) will come out sooner! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Awesome video! What song is that?

My wife and I are taking a 10 month trip around the world soon and watching videos like yours get me so excited!!!!

The video probably makes my life seem much cooler than it actually is, though, to be honest, I’m not complaining about my life. It’s nice to be in the driver’s seat!

  7. Hey man,
just saw that you put out a new video. As your old is pretty much the best video I’ve ever seen in the whole internet, I’d really like to watch your new one.

However in some lands (here germany), it contains contain that’s prohibited. So maybe you can upload it in some other place with less strict rules like vimeo.com or any site like that.

    Thanks & Keep it up!!

Yeah, I wasn’t sure how far the Youtube licensing extended. I’ll push it onto vimeo as soon as I can.

      1. Hey Ki’une,

did you already upload your new video somewhere else but youtube? I’m from Germany as well (like Joe) and your video is blocked over here because of the song u used in your video 🙁

I loved your sunscreen song video and i’m looking forwad to see your new one 🙂

  8. Absolutely brilliant! You have done it again. I first found your site after your sunscreen vid and this is equally brilliant.

Would love to see a list of places your visits but HAVE to ask about the tree top walk one – where is that? I want to add it to my list of places to visit!

Thanks Ki’une – for lifting my spirits today and reminding us to let the dance / art / love out!

Michelle, the tree top is Capilano near Vancouver. It’s kind of a touristy hot spot, and I set up good camera angles to make it look great. If you ever make it there, and don’t think it’s so great (as many do), make sure you check out the nearby Lynn Canyon – locals go there and it’s free too!

  9. Awesome, bro!

  11. Hey bro,
Came across your video on Tim’s blog. Just wanted to say thanks, inspiring video – hit a note with me – reminded me of a deep need inside me to travel more. So for later this year I’ve started planning a big trip.

Question: While on that trip I also want to master dancing – have you got any productivity tips on learning dance fast?

    Thanks.

  12. your my new hero Ki’une! hope to meet you one day……

  13. Beautiful, inspirational, and full of the kind of bliss-love-unity that many people spend way too much time in deep meditation trying to achieve… and, bam, there it is without sitting still at all!

Found you on Tim Ferris, and you’ve got a new fan. I’ll definitely be buying your dance course!

Hit me up some time and maybe we can figure out a way for me to promote you from my site.

Either way, thank you for sharing your beautiful vision online.

Thanks, Alex. Yeah, I’m kind of curious about your marketing because your website seems to get a lot of traffic. I don’t really market, so I’m wondering what my potential upside is?

  14. Howdy. Saw your video on 4hougblog.com, and watched it rapt, breathless, and choked up. I started Tim’s book 8 days ago, and only half way thru I’ve got a plan to leave my job in 113 days and go on an 8 month trip I’ve been daydreaming about for 5 years. In the last 8 days I went from inspired and excited to paralyzed with fear about whether the money will work. Your video re-energized me and shook me out of my paralysis and back on track. I still haven’t resolved my money issues, but I’m not letting them stop me short. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m going to go watch Dance Like Noone’s Watching again for the 7th time. Have fun.

  15. Hello, Ki’une –

I found your site through the 4HWW Blog and I think it’s awesome. Not sure if you’re up for guest posting or not at this point but please let me know if that’s something you’d be interested in.

At 63 I may be the oldest responder, but 63 is not that old if you still feel young and adventurous. When I lose the desire for travel. . . .bury me. LOL that’s what it would take.

I ran across your video on a totally unrealted web site http://www.fourhourbody.com And it just knoked me out. The dance, the music, the lyrics, the scenery all just came together to thrill me. I have been forcing people (my wife, my legal assistant etc) to watch the video. They are all ages and everyone w/o exception loved it.

    Keep em coming.

If you ever get a chance, I would love to see a scene by scene location list. I am reminded of places I have been in Japan, Thailand, the US west coast etc.

Again, Domo arrigato gozaimasu fro a terriffc (and terrifically inspiring) video.

Please, tell me, i’m sooooooo curious!! How can you afford all those travels? Do you work? How? Sorry if it is too personal, I’ve been trying to find the answers in your site for more than a week, and I couldn’t. So I’m here asking with my bad english (it’s not my first language). I’ve been here typing this message for about 10 minutes, deleting almost everything I typed because I think I’m talking a lot. So I will stop here. I hope you can answer these questions. Even if you don’t I would like to thank you a lot for expanding my horizons.

    So… THANK YOU!!

I definitely plan on writing about this, but I delayed it because I’m still figuring things out. The short of it is that I work from wherever I am, and I don’t carry too many expenses back at home (i.e. no home, no rent) . I think you’ll like my next article. It’s an intro, at the least.. When I travel, I spend a lot of time planning videos as well as making them, but the most important point is that I really like what I’m doing.

Oh, and sorry about my e-mail. I don’t have one anymore.

  20. Hi Ki’une. Just had to come and watch your video again for a little pick me up. We’ve been counting down to a 8-month mini retirement at our house (54 days to take-off), and I come watch your video often to keep the faith that all the work, prep, and fear-fighting are worth it. I can’t believe all that has happened since we started planning in June, most of which seems like sheer magic at times. We don’t have our passive income thing figured out entirely, but whatever. I’m tired of letting the money dictate every choice, ya know? (I know you know)

I followed your advice and got a DSLR for shooting video instead of a camcorder. Unbelieveable quality. Wanted to share a trick I discovered. Canon has a Loyalty Program where you can send them a broken camera (any Canon), and they’ll give you 20% off any refurbished one they have in stock. Sooo, I went onto ebay, bought a broken Powershot for $9 and got 20% off my $600 Rebel T2i. It shoots amazing video.

    Thanks again Ki’une. Have fun.

      Jeff

Thanks for the awesome update! I like what you said – “we don’t have our passive income thing figured out entirely, but whatever…” . It’s true – you don’t want to keep putting off living and aiming, aiming, and aiming, but never firing. Some of my travels have put me in the hole, but I’ve never regretted going on them because of what I learned, and now, because I have more purpose on seeing the world. In particular, in creates a huge switch in my thinking, and I generate tons of writing ideas on the road. I also have to admit, however, that I get tons of ideas when I’m not on the road too, but when I’m doing simple things like taking a long bike ride with no destination or going for a hike.

Thanks for the tip on the Canon too. I’m going to dig out an old Powershot too and cross my fingers for a T3i then! Nice, LIGHT travel camera – I had the 60D, but it was too heavy.

      Ki’une

      1. The Canon Loyalty Program works basically for whatever they have in stock on their Refurbished DSLR Cameras. They’ll give you 20% of anything that’s in stock in exchange for any broken Canon camera. I got a Rebel T2i kit (w/ lens). Cool huh? Thanks for bringing the hit count on it lol

  23. Hi Ki’une. We took off in Oct. as planned and did an 8 week roadtrip from Maine to Florida. It was amazing. We’re doing another one coming up that will go from Jan-May. I was trying to tell someone how we came up with this new way of life, and it was hard because it actually came to me in a flash, which makes it difficult to describe to others. The only comparison I can think of is that it was like when lightning flashes over the desert in darkness, and for an instant you can see the whole landscape; I had the whole plan flash before my “third eye” one day, and spent 4 months preparing for it. Then we launched. You asked me when I first wrote you thanking you for this inspiring video what else I find inspiring, or what I use for inspiration. I have in fact given that simple question a lot of thought, cuz it wasn’t so simple after all. There have been several things that I find inspiring (your video being #1), but I think this 3 part video series from Andy Andrews is another big one for me. I think of it often, and wanted to share as I had in fact taken your question to heart, and wanted to come back here with a well thought response. Thanks again; have fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnrz9HGjj_U&feature=related

    1. Jeff,

You did it! Your description of the mental journey was really thought-provoking. Many people are afraid of a vagabond lifestyle, but you’ve shown that long term travel doesn’t have to be exactly like that. You planned it and more importantly, stuck with the plan. Hopefully, if I can tie up all the great projects I am working on, I will see you in the Great Southwest in the spring!

May I quote your above comment in my future writings?

      All the best,

      Ki’une

  24. Of course you can. I was using that analogy in a Facebook exchange with a friend who’s been wanting to make a big career change, but is paralyzed by fear, and she’s asked me how I could be so fearless about leaving our comfort zone to travel. My answer was: “Well, the part that’s hard to explain is what one does with all the naturally occurring fear that continually creeps in. I was thinking about this today how I saw what I wanted for myself in a flash of an instant. The only way I can compare it to is a flash of lighting that lights up the desert at night, and you see it crystal clear for a moment, and then its dark again. After its dark again its easy to have all kinds of doubts about whether what you saw was what you saw, etc. Anyways, a smart person once told me if you’re not at least a little uncomfortable you’re not on the right path”.

I’m sure you can relate to this better than most. Its not so much about being “fear-less”, for fears seem to occur quite naturally and regularly. The challenge then becomes not letting them defeat your hopes and dreams, but rather observe them and then let them dissolve.

    1. ki'une Avatar
      ki’une

Yeah, I was reflecting on that today (and partly as I wrote my new post). On my current path, fear comes more frequently than before, yet whenever I look back at fears past, they have indeed dissolved, and I’ll always reach a present moment where everything is OK.

  25. I could never get tired watching this video. Amazing and inspiring at the same time. I have also been sharing it to my friends.

Hope you get to inspire more people!
